CARTHAGE
AMIGA, ATARI ST • 1990
◼︎ A tactical strategy game with occasional arcade interludes thrown in,
Carthage
impresses as much with its polished visuals as it does with its engrossing gameplay. Much of the action takes place on a world map, where you fund armies that go into battle for you.
JEFF’S MEMORIES
Carthage was mostly designed by Dave Worrall, it was something me and Dave almost did on the side. I think someone said to just knock something together; we must have had some spare time. It had a bit of action, a bit of cinematics and a bit of strategy. I don’t really deserve any credit for the design of that other than the way it looked. But me and Dave got on really well, and we literally just banged it together. There was a little 3D in there with the chariots because we could, and why not? There was a bit of 3D with the world map too. We pretty much threw the kitchen sink at it. It was to test stuff as well, because in those days a lot of the games we did were experimental.”
