DISCWORLD
PC, VARIOUS • 1995
◼︎ Based loosely on the Terry Pratchett novel
Guards! Guards!, Discworldturns the surreal adventures of a wizard called Rincewind into a point-and-click adventure. Because it’s based on a book, the characters inDiscworldare prone to exposition, but because this is humorous it adds to the game rather than detracting from it. Sometimes it also advances the plot by providing you with clues for what to do next. As with all point-and-click games, your objective is to solve puzzles through exploration and interaction with other characters. Many ofDiscworld’s challenges require you to track down or trade for objects and creatures, which once secured can be combined to produce something of use. Very often, what you’re looking for can be found by speaking to bystanders – as touched on previously – or by examining your environment, although doing so often results in a gag of some sort instead, which is welcome given the game’s source material.
