WIP3OUT
PLAYSTATION • 1999
◼︎Wip3out
was one of the few PlayStation titles to use its highresolution mode, and this is reflected by its sharper, cleaner look. However there’s far more to the game than just pretty visuals. There are three new teams to race for – meaning there are three new ships, there’s also a new weapon in the form of multi-missiles and split-screen multiplayer for the first time in the
WipEout
series.
JEFF’S MEMORIES
Wip3out was mainly done at the Leeds studio. Nicky Place worked there, and just as a favour she asked if I would do some cutscenes because she was short on time. Wip3out was just after I’d dropped out of being the art manager. Everybody else was getting to play with 3D stuff and I wasn’t, so I felt like I was missing the boat. We just tried to keep the same mood, because by that time the look of WipEout was established. The ships already existed, and all I did was build them and do an animated sequence with them. Not all of it, most of it had been done in Leeds. But I did some in Liverpool, and then they tacked it on.”
