Who'd have thought, in these days of levelling up, diversity, erosion of class distinctions and appreciation of fashionable regional accents, that a major national newspaper (The Times) would devote 16 pages to a toffs' guide for 2022 called The New Posh Handbook?
Yes, posh is back. It's a word I've detested all my life as a result of my mother's absolute obsession that her only child should be seen, in a Northern working-class environment, to be posher than anyone else in the neighbourhood.
