Calum Macdonald from Point and Sandwick Trust speaks at the launch.
Lews Castle College’s new innovation centre opened to the public on Tuesday August 21. The launch, in the foyer of the college, was attended by around 50 people including MSP Alasdair Allan, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar chief executive Malcolm Burr, students, college Staff , media representatives and members of the public. Founding sponsors Point and Sandwick Trust (PST) spoke about how ‘delighted’ it was to help the centre come to fruition.
PST’s wind farm developer Calum MacDonald spoke at the launch and drew parallels between the spirit that created Beinn Ghrideag – now the largest community wind farm in the UK – and the founding principles of the innovation centre. The centre is the brainchild of engineer Dr Chris Macleod and provides training, advice and development facilities for people who want to start their own business or learn more about technology.
