Stand up for your writing
Adrian Magson says he’s all for not sitting down on the job
Adrian Magson
My main focus with this column has always been that anything that makes writing easier, including the creating and putting down of words on paper is a must-have.
Included in that is the fact that, quite simply, you need to be comfortable while writing. By that I don’t just mean a moral comfort, say, when it comes to the body count in your crime novel or the method by which the nominated baddie gets their comeuppance in the final chapter. That’s entirely down to you – and your readers. (If they don’t like it, they won’t buy another one. It’s natural selection by rejection. If they love it, you’re on a winner, so keep going.)
The comfort zone
What I‘m talking about is being physically comfortable in what is at best a non-physical occupation. Comfort brings inspiration more easily than constantly shifting in your seat or getting up to make coffee to delay admitting to yourself that the muse has left the building.
