GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE’S G650 and G650ER aircraft have received European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) steep approach certification. The G650 family had previously been granted similar approval by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2019 after successful demonstrations at London City (LCY) and Lugarno Airport in Switzerland. During the trials, the G650 proved its capability to perform a 5.5º approach and operate on LCY’s 4,327ft runway, with EASA certification now allowing approaches up to 6º. Gulfstream president Mark Burns commented: “We are pleased to be able to increase flexibility for our G650 and G650ER European operators by giving them access to such airports as London City near the city’s financial district [alongside] more remote airfields throughout Europe. The family’s high-speed performance advantage paired with this new certification will expand opportunities for our customers with more options for remote destinations.”
