The biggest mistake first-time runners make is trying to go too far too soon, or cramming in their event training at the last minute. Once you can run for 30 minutes (or do a 5K) without having to stop, you can train for a half marathon in 12 weeks,’ says sports scientist Greg Whyte (gregwhyte.com), who has coached everyone from Eddie Izzard to Davina McCall for their Sport Relief challenges.
