A Norwegian study of 6000 people has found cleaning with excessive chemicals is damaging our lungs, and women appear to be more badly affected than men. Adults who were followed for more than 20 years, saw a decline in lung function over the years – more so among women who cleaned because the chemicals irritate the mucous membranes that line the airways of the lungs. The researchers argue that simply a microfibre cloth and water is plenty for most clean-ups. You could also go for wipes rather than sprays for tough jobs. Another reason to go chemical-free.
