Time for change
The Jones family altered this plot’s original plans for a traditional oak home and built a modern SIPs house that better suited their lifestyle

Two years before Conrad and Jenny Jones bought their plot, the landowner had developed a design on the site for two oak frame buildings with a package supplier. As the parcel of land is adjacent to the Cotswold AONB, planning had been quite the challenge – there were numerous design constraints from the outset. After overcoming those hurdles, full planning was obtained for two oak homes in March 2016.
Some years later, the landowner’s son took over the development, and focused his attention on a single property, selling the other plot to the Jones family. “The owner only wanted to pass on the land to someone she knew – she didn’t want anyone who might try to cram two dwellings onto the plot,” says Jenny. The Joneses had been looking for a new home for a long time and jumped at the chance to buy the land with consent already secured, paying £270,000.
