Lambton No. 5 on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway before withdrawal from service.
LLT
THE Lambton Locomotive Trust has announced its intention to overhaul Lambton No. 5 to full working order. The Robert Stephenson built locomotive (3377/1909) has been out of service for many years, but with the completion of sister locomotive No. 29 (Kitson works number 4263, built 1904), the Trust has decided to overhaul No. 5.
Trust chairman Chris Cubitt explained that the Trust has some funds, as has the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR), but significantly more will be necessary to fund a full overhaul of No. 5 and future development of The Trust.
Mr Cubitt outlined some known work required. The boiler will require lifting from the frames for a full examination, but likely, it will certainly need new tubes, attention to stays and work to the front tubeplate and a new smokebox. A full examination will take place once the boiler has been lifted.
