ROGER ENO
THE TURNING YEAR
DEUTSCHE GRAMMOPHON
★★★★
Though Mixing Colours, Roger Eno’s lockdown-era release with brother Brian, shone an overdue spotlight on him, he’s been releasing placid music since their 1983 ambient classic with Daniel Lanois, Apollo: Atmospheres And Soundtracks. With more recent events demanding reflection, his most ambitious album yet is also perfectly timed. A Place We Once Walked and Clearly pair hypnotic piano melodies with strings, and Stars And Wheels’ organs are strangely elegiac.
