DAVID HOLMES
BLIND ON A GALLOPING HORSE
HEAVENLY
★★★
After producing Noel Gallagher and Primal Scream, plus making numerous soundtracks, Holmes finally releases his first solo album since 2008. He’s lost none of the wide-eyed wonder and headrush pop, with You Will Know Me By The Smell Of Onions a dizzying drama. Too reliant on vocalist Raven Violet at times, her smoky drawl overly familiar from Holmes’ recent music, the pair combine for several escapist anthems, while the title track’s spoken melodrama is compelling. Not quite Let’s Get Killed levels of wonder, but it’s still great to have Holmes back.
