Personalised adverts on ChatGPT are inevitable
In Issue 717’s Star Letter Simon Carpenter warns that ChatGPT might end up neglecting our privacy, just like Facebook did. He could be right. The warning sign will be when adverts start appearing in ChatGPT – and I say ‘when’ not ‘if’ because surely they’re inevitable. I know that OpenAI’s business model is focused on subscriptions, but how long can that last? It’s not forecast to make a profit until 2029 and is losing around $5 billion a year.
