SHELF LIFE
It doesn’t look it, but the library at historic Foxlow homestead (this page), near Bungendore in NSW, is new – owners Edwin and Elizabeth Michell built the bookshelves to match the original mantel. They used the wood from a 150-year-old red oak on the property that had come down in a storm, but if you’re not so lucky, follow Danielle Symes’s lead. The shelving in her living room at the Coach House, in the Adelaide Hills (left), was a Facebook Marketplace find – a cabinet she refurbished, which now hides the TV and displays treasures.
