T
he Finder has been with us since the very first Mac. It’s your Mac’s file manager and file explorer, enabling you to organise and locate all your documents, photos, apps and data. And it’s very easy to get it just-so. If you open a new Finder window or open a folder, you’ll see a toolbar along the top. Look for the View button; this changes the Finder display from a list to columns, icons or a gallery view that lets you see what each document is. If you go to View > Show View Options, you can select what information Finder should display and adjust the text and icon size too; use Set As Defaults if you want those settings to apply across your entire Mac.
The next button is Group, and that enables you to organise the current folder’s contents by various criteria – their names, their file types, their creation or last modified date, and so on. These settings are saved per folder so you can have different grouping and different views in different folders.
