BRIQUEVILLE
Quelle PELAGIC
Metronomic miserablism from Belgian post-metallers
At the heart of Briqueville lies a contradiction: how can a band so minimalistic simultaneously create art so multi-dimensional? The answer lies in a combination of stark aesthetics and metronomic instrumentals, creating a sensory experience both emotionally driven and atmospherically rich. The droning feedback opening Akte VIII comes straight from the Swans playbook, swallowing you whole while the music expands out exponentially amidst an ocean of noise. Early on, tar-like glacial riffs mostly drown the band’s melodic tendencies; by Akte X the balance flips and lighter tones take prominence. These shades of Kyuss-ish stargazing and Eastern-sounding notes à la Led Zeppelin offer brief respite - a gasp of air before being sucked inexorably back into the sludgy abjection below.
