THE ERKONAUTS
I Want It To End
SELF-RELEASED
Progressive Swiss rockers keep a load of grit in their gears
If you can imagine Motörhead going in a more progressive direction, then you’ll have some idea of where this Swiss band are heading on their third album. Very much the brainchild of bassist/vocalist Ales Campanelli this is a dark, intense album, with not all of the current band line-up being featured. What is presented is diverse and captivating. At times, it’s chaotic and cluttered, as on The Curse Of Scotland. Occasionally, as with Caravaggio, it’s beautifully acoustic, and there are moments when the music explodes in a thrash fury, such as on War Flamingoes, but there’s a cohesive groove holding it together, ensuring I Want To End It All is never less than engaging. This album marks out The Erkonauts, or more specifically Ales Campanelli, as a vital musical force on the progressive metal map.
