MORTA SKULD
Suffer For Nothing PEACEVILLE
Veteran Wisconsin death squad keep it desolate
Continuing the ferocious renaissance that started with Wounds Deeper Than Time in 2017, Milwaukee’s death metal kings are on merciless form on their sixth full-length. Still firmly rooted in an old-school ethos, Suffer For Nothing delivers most of its jaw-shattering uppercuts at a monolithic mid-pace, only veering off into high-velocity savagery when it really counts. The finest songs here equal anything Morta Skuld churned out in their 90s heyday; Divide The Soulless is an ominous, muscular assault with a doomy undertow; Extreme Tolerance crackles with chaotic, violent intent; the title track marries pitch-black thrash with sledgehammer blasts and some deeply (Celtic) frosty riffing. Their world view remains bleak as fuck, but Morta Skuld are blazing away in death’s shadow regardless.
