Mull in spotlight at Strengthening Community conference

A COMMUNITY forest on Mull is to be used as an example of best practice in place-based community development at the upcoming Strengthening Communities conference in Aviemore.

Mull is successfully implementing a place-based approach to develop the island with the aims of growing the island’s population, creating a stronger infrastructure and improving community resilience.

As part of this, South West Mull and Iona Development Ltd (SWMID) was set up in 2014. Among its work has been the buyout, management and development of Tiroran Forest, which it owns on behalf of the community of South West Mull and Iona, to create a space for conservation, education and recreational projects alongside commercial developments.
