Anouk Vetter: set Dutch mark
ANOUK VETTER has greatly improved since her seventh place in 2014 and showed her competitive mettle has also improved. With her final long jump, she improved from 6.02m to 6.38m to increase her lead and then did the same in the javelin, improving from 49.51m to 55.76m, in both cases surpassing her major rival, reigning champion, Antoniette Nana Djimou.
That meant she went into the final event with a huge lead of 198 points.
Despite a labored 800m in 2:21.50, she thought she had broken Dafne Schippers’ Dutch record with 6626 as she went second on the 2016 European list to Jessica Ennis-Hill. However, a missing windreading from her 200m means it can’t be ratified.
