Poster girl: Dafne Schippers justified her top billing with victory in 10.90
THERE was never any doubt who would win this as the championships’ poster girl was roared on by a home crowd who expected nothing less than a Dutch double at 100m following Churandy Martina’s surprise men’s victory.
The world 200m champion had an excellent start and was always in control as she retained her title by a three-metre margin, winning in 10.90 and looking relaxed as the others strained in the distance.
Bulgaria’s Ivet Lalova-Collio won her second silver of the championships in a distant 11.20 while Switzerland’s Mujinga Kambundji, who was fourth in 2014, finished third in 11.25, just ahead of Asha Philip’s 11.27. The Briton has also finished fourth at the World Juniors, a World Indoors and Commonwealth Games.
