Corentin Brasart’s music isn’t exactly subtle, since it’s designed to support the wordless narrative, but it’s one of the game’s stronger features. Two vocal tracks are shamelessly saccharine, though
T he pre-title sequence of this self-proclaimed “poetic cinematic platformer” sees a sad young boy sneak out of his bedroom at night, before leaving a candle at a rain-lashed memorial. He must then negotiate a construction site unnoticed, before resting at a bus stop by some nearby woodland, where he encounters the eponymous fawn. Though our involvement seldom amounts to more than nudging the analogue stick right, it’s a fairly effective showcase of the game’s wordless storytelling. Alas, while the would-be emotional journey that follows involves as much climbing as descending slopes, it’s pretty much all downhill from here.
