Vinyl sales on the site soared by 42% in 2019 according to Discogs’ Year End Report
Vinyl consolidated its position as the dominant format on Discogs last year, with 695,201 new submissions to the database during the year, up from 552,534 in 2018. By contrast, CD submissions dropped by 3%. The cassette revival gathered pace for reasons we know not, soaring by 70% in 12 months. The new figures were released in Discogs’ annual report and make for encouraging reading in these uncertain times. There were 11.6 million vinyl sales on the platform, a massive 42% rise, while 1.8m CDs were also shifted (-19%). The UK remains the second biggest marketplace on Discogs, behind the US, with 140,150 releases added in 2019.
