EGG RECORDS
“Salted popcorn, you can go now; anabolic steroids, you can go now…” We need more bands like The Lovely Eggs. Married duo Holly Ross and David Blackwell have been forging their own path for 13 years, starting with the Ivor Cutler irony of Have You Ever Heard A Digital Accordion? and collaborating with Gruff Rhys, Tjinder Singh, and, er, even John Shuttleworth. Album six continues their relationship with producer David Fridmann. The sound is just as powerful as 2017’s This Is Eggland, but the musical palette is more nuanced. Still Second Rate rails in the listener’s face, but other tracks, such as The Mothership and album closer New Dawn, show increasing pop songwriting muscle. Their best record yet, I Am Moron manages to articulate the disbelief of a sane individual in a world run by idiots. Sound familiar?
