VARESE SARABANDE
Whip out your leather duster coats; the Keanussaince is officially in full swing with the reissue of The Matrix soundtrack album. From the opening off -key tinkle of a waterphone (surely the most ‘red pill’ of instruments) on Main Title/Trinity Infinity to the scurrying of strings on Unable To Speak, Don Davis’ soundtrack is designed to put listeners on edge. For a film set in a digital world, the use of synths and computer soundscape sorcery is surprisingly minimal, the focus instead being placed on the barrage of horns, the dramatic clash of cymbals and the swell of violins. Though it’s a picture disc, who doesn’t want to spin a record splattered in green Matrix code?
