RHINO
Closer in spirit to The Chemical Brothers and Underworld’s mainstream emergence than anything to do with Britpop, The Human League’s 1995 album revived them thanks to Top 10 classic Tell Me When and is their most straight-up floorfiller. A couple of ballads now appear flimsy, but are atoned for with the exhilarating Filling Up With Heaven, These Are The Days and stunning seven-minute finale Cruel Young Lover. The 2LP version (exclusive to Rhino’s webstore) makes the dance music affiliation more explicit, adding eight remixes which have aged remarkably well. You’ll remember how good Utah Saints were, thanks to their punishing version of Tell Me When, while Sonic Radiation’s explosive These Are The Days will blast you into the middle of next week. Alongside 2011’s Credo, here is the League’s overlooked classic.
