DAWN CHORUS
Jack Hues is best known as the frontman of Wang Chung, the primarily 80s act who hit it big on both sides of the Atlantic with hit single Dance Hall Days (which, way back when, was accompanied by a promo video directed by Derek Jarman). Hues also spent time recording with Tony Banks from Genesis on side project, Strictly Inc. Featuring able assistance from Syd Arthur’s Joel and Josh Magill, his long-time-in -the-making solo debut Primitif is a double album and contains echoes of old-school Canterbury Prog (where both Hues and Syd Arthur reside) and good old-fashioned art rock, with lead single Whitstable Beach a standout. When questioned about the album, Hues revealed: “The emotional landscape is primal, the means of production were basic, if not exactly primitive, so this is Primitif.” We can’t start to fault his logic.
