TWO large wheels which once formed part of the pulley system for cablehauled trams in Edinburgh have been discovered during work to extend the city’s present-day network to Newhaven.
Found during excavation on Leith Walk, the wheels could be removed for safekeeping. They are remains of a system which operated from January 1888 until the introduction of electric trams around a century ago.
