IRISH Rail’s overhaul of General Motors B121 Class No. B134 at Inchicore, on behalf of the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland (RPSI), is once again making headway since work resumed after the Covid-19 suspension.
Recent progress has been focused on refurbishing the engine compartment canopy and returning this to the locomotive. Much of the original canopy had corroded and fractured in places, and these wasted areas have been cut out and new material welded in. The supporting frame has had its alignment corrected by Inchicore’s Frank Levin and Barry Erdis in the FCR shop, and this has now been returned to the loco; a slow and precise task performed using the overhead crane under the ever-watchful eye of Paul Cassoni.
