BLUEBELL STAGES A DIESEL SHUNTING EVENT: With diesel power now becoming more acceptable on the hitherto all-steam Bluebell Railway, new demonstration opportunities are opening up. Class 09 No. D4106 was in action on August 8 during the railway’s ‘60 + 1’ event, giving a demonstration of how a goods train is made up. The shunt was performed in the up-side yard at Horsted Keynes.
The wagons were given numbers drawn out of a hat to make it a bit more interesting in getting them all in order for the consist make-up. Proceedings were described by a running commentary explaining what was happening. The goods train eventually grew to seven vehicles in total and is seen during the build-up.

THE Diesel & Electric Group and West Somerset Restoration is getting on well with the complete restoration of Class 14 No. D9518 at Williton, West Somerset Railway. The 0-6-0DH was acquired in very poor, nonoperational condition and has been stripped down to the bare frame.
