The uBlock Origin Lite extension is still available but its ad-blocking features are very limited compared to the original.
Since Google’s rollout of Manifest V3 for Chromium-based browsers, such as Chrome and Microsoft Edge, the days of ad blockers like uBlock Origin have been numbered.
The upgrade is designed to enhance security and privacy, but it hampers the effectiveness of ad blocking by limiting dynamic filtering and requiring all updates to be approved by Google.
The Chrome browser has now taken things a step further by removing non-complaint extensions, which some users report includes uBlock Origin. While there is a uBlock Origin Lite browser add-on, its effectiveness is very limited, given that it can’t filter ads in real time, nor receive automatic updates. It’s also more difficult to customise ad blocking preferences than in the original version of uBlock Origin.
This move by Google isn’t confined to the uBlock Origin add-on but all Manifest V2 extensions. Other popular browsers, like Firefox and Brave, will continue to support older-style extensions, including uBlock Origin, while maintaining compatibility with Manifest V3. CREDIT: Chrome Web Store
