The Amnesiac Incognito Live System, or Tails for short, has been in active development since 2009. According to the main site it’s designed to protect against surveillance and censorship.
One of the ways it does this is by routing all connections via Tor, often called the darknet. Naturally, this is much safer than using standalone software like the Tor Browser, as other apps can leak your real IP address.
