Displaced Iranians continue to attack an oppressive regime
PRESS
Confess’s backstory is as well-known as their music. In 2015, this Iranian group were arrested for the ‘crime’ of being a metal band – or, as the government deemed it, “propaganda against the state” – and served jail time, including months in solitary confinement. After seeking asylum in Norway to escape persecution, they released 2022’s venomous Revenge At All Costs album. That album’s follow-up, Destination Addiction, is another cry of righteous fury, lyrics like ‘Part of me is left in that cell!’ equal in power to the music that underpins them. With its turntable scratching, Expedition nods towards Slipknot, while After Goliath’s riffs could have come from Mark Morton’s fretboard. But what unites it all is a vicious hatred that resonates long after the album’s over. ■■■■■■■■■■
