Every extreme band wants to push the boundaries of aggression, but these guys are on another level. The follow-up to the terrifying Fear & Dagger, which was notable for Marc ‘Zelli’ Zellweger’s insane vocal performance, Cursed offers a metalcore/deathcore hybrid that annihilates the competition and feels like a concrete block being dropped on the listener’s head. A few modernist, rap-influenced detours aside, songs like Hatred and My Blood On Your Hands are ruthless and unrelenting. Riffs pile up like charred corpses, grooves are executed with vein-popping precision, and Zelli roars and screams with unhinged ferocity. Slipknot fans will recognise the sound of a band on the edge of madness, and windows, furniture and a terrified face or two will be smashed accordingly. Splendid. ■■■■■■■■■■
