This week saw a number of people recognised for the fantastic work they do, not only in their own community but also futher afield.
On page four Gian Bove, who works in Homebase, received a visit from Brendan O’Hara MP to tell him he was being recognised by the House of Commons for his voluntary work with the Care Inspectorate – he recently became Argyll and Bute’s first volunteer young inspector for services to children and young people. And on page five the volunteers who work tirelessly for Mary’s Meals were presented with a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the UK’s highest accolade for charitable services.
None of these people do what they do for self gain or recognition, but it is important that we recognise their efforts, not only as a way of saying thank you, but because as role models and ambassadors for their chosen organisations, it puts their work in the spotlight and hopefully encourages others to get involved.
