Blown off course
THE departments of chemistry and geography at the University of Leicester are set to be “reimagined” into one combined department, with key research specialisms to be lost in the latest round of job cuts.
The university is consulting on more than 100 academic job cuts, with whole departments facing likely closure. Film studies and modern languages courses are expected to stop taking on new students from 2026, and the history department is facing major staff cuts, with the university blaming falling student numbers.
