l Peppercorn was the unsuccessful precursor of Popcorn. When originally sold in cinemas the spicy peppery flavouring burnt people’s mouths and caused them to sneeze throughout the film. This was not a problem in the age of silent cinema, but when the talkies arrived, Peppercorn was doomed, as no one could hear amidst all the coughing, sneezing, wheezing and cries for medical assistance.
