BRUSSELS SPROUTS
THE relationship between EU institutions and the College of Europe in Bruges – a finishing school for wannabe EU officials (alumni include Nick Clegg and Stephen Kinnock) – has always been cosy. But few suspected it would be at the centre of a major corruption probe.
Two of the EU’s top diplomats are alleged to have rigged a multi-million-euro tender linked to the establishment of a European Diplomatic Academy at the college. Federica Mogherini and Stefano Sannino have been arrested, questioned and released pending an investigation by Belgian police and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO).
