Frozen pleas
AUK-SANCTIONED oligarch might be expected to be able to challenge restrictions in Britain’s courts. But few would think that a treaty with international pariah Russia itself would provide a springboard for a legal case.
That’s what billionaire Mikhail Fridman is trying, however, as he tries to overturn sanctions imposed in March 2022 and the freezing of his UK assets – including a house in Highgate valued at more than £100m and a £44m art collection – because he “is and/or has been involved in obtaining a benefit from or supporting the government of Russia” through his Alfa banking group.
