THE MONTH’S HIGHLIGHTS
IN THE WORLD News In Brief
JR Ewing is shot in US TV soap Dallas, leading to a worldwide “Who shot JR?” pop culture phenomenon. The British Olympic Committee votes to not boycott the summer Olympic Games held in Moscow. NASA’s Voyager 1 probe confirms the existence of Saturn’s moon Janus.
IN THE CHARTS Disco Inferno
The top-selling UK single this month is Together We Are Beautiful from American singer Fern Kinney. Just behind it in second place is The Jam with the double A-side of Going Underground and Dreams Of Children. Blondie, Marti Webb and Liquid Gold round out the top five.
IN THE CINEMA Jerk Vs Zombies
US comedies continue to rule the UK box office, with The Jerk starring Steve Martin taking over from Meatballs at the top spot. There’s also a belated UK cinema release for George Romero’s Dawn Of The Dead. Great news – except the BBFC has censored four minutes of gore.
