Sega’s Mega Drive is easily its most popular console, spawning
Sonic The Hedgehog
,
Gunstar Heroes
and countless other iconic games. As a big fan of the system, I’m delighted to see it has finally been immortalised in Lego form.
When you consider the price of this new build it’s surprisingly good value, particularly when placed next to the recent Game Boy release, which came with 58 fewer pieces, but costs nearly an extra £20. Having said that, the engineering of the Game Boy is significantly better than what’s on offer here, although that’s more down to the chunkiness of Nintendo’s original console, rather than a poor effort on Lego’s part. It’s very hard to emulate curves with Lego. Still, this is a decent attempt, with the machine’s side grill and general shape well captured. Sadly, the pads are less impressive, missing their Start buttons and just looking a little too bulky.
