Of course you want gold, that's what you train for but in my head, I kind of won the gold because we were the boat with the highest boat speed for almost the whole race.
I can only be proud of what we achieved. I don't know if not getting the gold changes much, maybe for the outside world it does, but for me it was the whole process and all the challenges we had on our plate; it is much more than just one race. That's what I feel right now. And I hope that feeling stays. Life is too short to be dissatisfied with a bronze medal at your first Olympic Games. I get that for Ilse it is a different kind of story because she was already the Olympic champion. She knows how it is to be an Olympic champion, I don't.
