PLACING GOLD
At 5.30am on the morning of our final I was up, out the door, and going for a walk. I always do this before the big races. I talked through the race plan by myself and visualised the race once again in my head. The crew and I caught the bus down later that morning and I ran through my usual race day steps; checking the boat, tightening the oars, weighing in, bathroom stops, and obsessively going over my race plan.
We met by the boat and the men filtered in one-by-one, all on time. I noticed a sense of calmness, there was no fake positivity just a few laughs and the odd smile. It was clear there was no need to hype everyone up, the lads were ready.
