For the perfect start to the day, try making an invigorating herbal brew. While your regular caffeinated cuppa can imbalance your hormones, this punchy combination does the reverse. Tear a few parsley leaves and combine with ½ tsp dried dandelion leaf or 3-4 fresh leaves, two lemon slices and a 1cm piece of root ginger, peeled and chopped. Then, top the lot with recently boiled water. ‘Sipping this herbal tea gives your body a break, and provides some valuable nutrients,’ says public health nutritionist Jo Lewin. ‘Anti-inflammatory ginger can soothe the digestive system; lemon and vitamin-packed parsley give a fresh taste and boost the immune system; while dandelion is a natural detoxifier to support the liver and help with PMS symptoms.’ Refreshing, zingy and health-boosting – now that’s a worthy accompaniment to a nutritious brekkie!
