Brits spend 15 hours every day staring at screens, and research by Rescue Remedy says it’s leaving 45 per cent of us exhausted, 36 per cent with sore eyes, 17 per cent with headaches, 15 per cent sleeping poorly and one in 20 with low self-esteem.
‘Look at how your phone is set up – does it ping each time you get a text or a like?’ says Dr Eleanor Beecraft from Channel 5’s GPs: Behind ClosedDoors. ‘That bombardment can be draining. Get an eye test if it’s been more than two years since your last one, and factor in breaks; headaches may be caused by muscular aches in the neck. Sleep woes are likely down to the blue light that tells your body it’s daytime, so stop using phones an hour before bed. In terms of self-esteem, think which apps are positive – bin any that make you feel worse.’
