Workmen have been cold-calling residents in Oban and the surrounding area offering to do work such as gardening, landscaping and general outdoor maintenance, according to the reports of Argyll and Bute Trading Standards.
The typical poor practices they offer include persuading the customer to have unnecessary work done, increasing the price of the job aTher it is finished and general malpractice.
A genuine trader legally must give a two-week waiting notice in case the customer changes their mind and must not start the work before this, unless the written permission of the client is given. They must also give the buyer their full written details.
