Spanish slammers give themselves something more to chew on
UNIQUE LEADER
Having discarded their serial killer-lauding title of Cannibal Grandpa in favour of a far cooler moniker, this Madrid quartet have also opted for a stylistic rebrand. While their brutal death still slams, chugs and snarls, almost every track offers a different twist to the formula. The fiendish speed of Hound Pound and Overtorture is offset by some grizzly breakdowns, but it’s the blackened atmosphere of Mallevs Maleficarvm where things really start to enter new realms. The galactic bombast of Moon Maniac and Wormhole complement the exploration of a new, albeit still chilling subject matter. The closing title track’s epic melodeath crawl sees the shackles of their old Albert Fishobsessed skin discarded in favour of an evolved form of extremity that’s more ambitious, challenging and engaging.
