Chinese-Mongolian folk metallers celebrate a decade well-spent
SELF-RELEASED
Nine Treasures take a leisurely stroll to the hills
FOR THE PAST decade, Nine Treasures have fought the good fight to share their own idiosyncratic take on folk metal and Mongolian culture. Considering the success of fellow Mongolian acts Tengger Cavalry and The Hu the question is: why aren’t they more well-known? Well, because they aren’t anything like those bands. In truth Nine Treasures owe more fealty on a songwriting perspective to European folk metal, particularly with their blending of driving heavy metal structures and light, frenetic string work. Unique as this makes them, it also turned them into an overlooked curio of East Asia’s burgeoning ‘Mongolian metal’ scene.
