MISOTHEIST
For The Glory Of Your Redeemer
Norwegian blasphemers invoke a black metal maelstrom
TERRATUR POSSESSIONS
Misotheist play black metal of the Deathspell Omega variety: all discordant riffs, diabolical atmospherics and shape-shifting rhythms. It takes significant chops to imitate those stylistic traits without collapsing into an atonal mess. Across three tracks, these Norwegians handle themselves with power and compositional control, with highlight, Benefactor Of Wounds, incorporating Behemothworthy hooks atop blackened doom. Its dominant pacing and guitar interplay seamlessly sets up the descent-intomadness of closer Acts Of The Flesh, a hall-of-mirrors opus that displays The Ruins Of Beverast’s scope for structural grandiosity. Misotheist are still trying to find a distinctive voice, but perhaps the next album will truly put this act at the same marbled head-table occupied by their most noticeable inspirations.
